Digital Humanities: Using Gale Digital Scholar Lab and Readex Online
This workshop introduces participants to two complementary digital humanities platforms—Gale Digital Scholar Lab and Readex with Voyant Tools—that enable computational analysis of historical texts drawn from major primary source collections.
Through guided demonstrations, participants will learn how to:
-
Construct thematic corpora from newspapers and archival documents
-
Apply text-mining techniques such as topic modeling, n-grams, sentiment analysis, and named-entity recognition
-
Compare different analytical workflows across platforms to understand the affordances and limitations of each tool
By highlighting interdisciplinary research questions and multiple interpretive approaches, this session emphasizes how digital methods can augment traditional close reading, support data-informed scholarship, and foster collaboration across the humanities and social sciences.
