Totally 90s Digital Practice Week - Blogging Workshop

Totally 90s Digital Practice Week - Blogging Workshop In-Person / Online

The 90s were a totally radical time! Especially the radical shifts in the way we communicate through the rise of the world wide web and the increasing accessibility of new and improved digital tools. Join the Experiential Learning Commons in exploring a variety of digital creative practices that had their big break in the totally tubular 90s!

Blogs are a 90s phenomenon that appeared following the explosion of personal and corporate websites. While HTML can help to create static pages, certain sections of websites were dedicated to news or personal journaling that would be manually updated through HTML updates. Eventually tools would be developed to automate the process and these "weblogs" would quickly grow in popularity, especially with platform-hosted sites and tools. Open Diary, LiveJournal, and Blogger.com would arise in the late 90s and blogging would become the go to mode of personal expression, citizen journalism, and exciting, one-off experiments in digital writing. This workshop will provide the opportunity to create your own blog utilizing Baylor's free access to the WordPress blogging platform for all students, faculty, and staff.

After this workshop you will:

  • Have an activated Baylor WordPress Blog that you can use to as a journal, a portfolio, or as a space for future projects and ideas.
  • Learn how to set up and manage a WordPress including customizing a design and the difference between page and post functions.
  • Create your first blog post about a radical 90s technology you just can't stop paging your friends about!

This workshop is intended for any member of the Baylor community interested in creative practice including students, faculty, and staff.
