Totally 90s Digital Practice Week - Video

Totally 90s Digital Practice Week - Video In-Person

The 90s were a totally radical time! Especially the radical shifts in the way we communicate through the rise of the world wide web and the increasing accessibility of new and improved digital tools. Join the Experiential Learning Commons in exploring a variety of digital creative practices that had their big break in the totally tubular 90s!

Digital Video made its public debut with a standardized codec family in 1995. While streaming technologies existed in the 90s, 2 frames per second weren't really cutting it for exciting viewing opportunities! However, the availability of digital video technologies to the public led to many early technology adopters eager to share downloads of their digital home videos and set the stage for the future of today where video streaming is nearly ubiquitous through web portals, phone applications, and various home appliances. In this workshop you'll be exposed to the variety of digital video equipment on offer through the Media Lab in the Experiential Learning Commons and have an opportunity to use that equipment to make a quick home video at Moody to share with your email pen pal you met through a listserv for book lovers.

After this workshop you will:

  • Be aware of the various equipment and facilities offered in the Experiential Learning Commons for video production.
  • Develop knowledge about working with stabilizers, gimbals, and tripods to enhance your video quality.
  • Understand the process of transferring videos to your computer and different video encoding options for how you wish to share your videos.
  • Have a neat little movie about the time you spent at this workshop in the Moody Library. It'll be swell.

This workshop is intended for any member of the Baylor community interested in creative practice including students, faculty, and staff.
